The HIV Prevention Program combines education programs, counseling and testing services aimed at prevention and early identification of HIV infection. The mission of this program is to provide education for the general community, people of color, HIV positive individuals, youth, gay men and women.
HIV Counseling & Testing Free confidential and anonymous testing for HIV (Rapid HIV testing - NO BLOOD OR NEEDLES) is done weekly at Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge main office every Tuesday from 10:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Other off-site locations are available (call the office for time and locations). Appointments are recommended for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Testing is followed by private reporting of results to the individual in a counseling session where the tested individual is directed to appropriate community medical and social services along with education about self-care. For more information on testing methods, please visit the Orasure and Oraquick technologies website. Click here. Risk Management Risk Management is a one-on-one, client-centered HIV/STD prevention activity with the fundamental goal of promoting the adoption and maintenance of HIV/STD risk reduction behaviors by clients who are at unusually high risk for spreading HIV/STDs. Prison Prevention Program A prison based component of the prevention program provides peer counseling and education about HIV/AIDS, pre-release resource information and services, and uses a rapid testing method.
